Do I need prior trail work experience? +
Not at all. Many of our volunteers come with no trail maintenance background. We provide on-site instruction, and our crew leads guide the work. What matters is the right fitness level for the specific event.
What should I bring? +
We'll send a full gear list when we confirm your spot. Generally: sturdy boots, sun protection, layers, water, snacks, and work gloves. We provide tools and safety equipment.
How strenuous are the events? +
It varies by event — that's exactly why we collect fitness level and comfortable hike distance in your profile. Each event listing specifies the difficulty and distance, and we match volunteers accordingly.
Is there a minimum age to volunteer? +
Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate independently. We are exploring family-friendly events for the future — if that interests you, mention it in your profile.
What if I have to cancel? +
Life happens — just let us know as early as possible by replying to your confirmation email. We maintain a waitlist and want to give someone else the chance to participate.
Are these events free? +
Yes. Native Ground stewardship events are free for volunteers. Our corporate partners fund the program so that community participation has no cost barrier.
